Decisions

We make many decisions every day, thousands of decisions. Some choices dramatically alter your life while others may only tilt its trajectory. Over time many little decisions can build into big ones. However, every decision we make today has the potential to impact us in a significant way down the road. For example, one day you may decide to step out of your comfort zone and compliment a stranger on their bright and bold clothing. On its face, this act doesn’t seem to be that life-changing, and for everyone, it may not be. But perhaps you are the sort of person that keeps their head down while out in public, trying desperately to blend into the shrubbery. Maybe your greatest wish is that strangers’ eyes are drawn away from your immediate vicinity. For this person, deciding to compliment someone’s appearance may produce a significant outcome. Based on how the interaction goes, this act may be just the first step in becoming far more socially comfortable. Of course, our choices don’t solely affect us. I for one must continually remind myself that even my everyday decisions make a difference in the lives of others. It is because of this that we all need to look at how we conduct our lives. In what attitude do we speak to the barista, the mailman, or the cashier? Do we withhold a smile because we “just aren’t feeling it today?” Do we make others feel special and loved. Everyone wants to feel like they are important, even the person ringing up your varying gas station purchases. We all wield tremendous power. We all can make someone the happiest they’ve been all week. Equally so, we can build into a person’s dark image of themselves. We could be the one person who chooses to happily patient waiting in a checkout line while everyone else is loudly complaining about the long wait. In the end, life is about people. Everyone you see throughout your day has a soul, a soul that will exist forever. You can nudge, or push, that soul to a future eternity of unspeakable magnificence.

I apologize in advance for the run-on sentences. Maybe one day I’ll be perfect :)
