Awkward

It’s funny. We all probably know one person who is a little tough to be around sometimes. If I am entirely honest with myself, I am likely that person for someone, or many people. Out there I’m sure I have given someone the impression I am a little indecisive, shy, and insecure. This impression bothers me mostly because I know I do have these wonderful qualities. Who knew trying to hide from people for most of my teenage years would produce someone a little socially awkward? At some point though, I realized skirting social situations isn’t a plausible plan when adulting.

Some qualities in my personality will, whether I like it or not, stick around for my entire life. Of course, I’m not just giving up and sealing myself in a cave for the rest of my life. I love people. Everyone you encounter today all has a past and a future. We all have things we have learned either by intention or quite by accident. We all have thoughts and desires we’ve accumulated over our life. The joy, pain, and awkward times make us who we are. In my case, I have plenty of the latter. I wouldn’t, and couldn’t, trade them for anything. We all want to be liked. Too bad not everyone will like you, no matter how much you try to show them how cool you are. In the same thread though, you will also find people who like to be around you despite your foibles. I can only hope there are other people out there who have the skill of filling a room with such a thick layer of awkwardness you could cut it with a knife.
